Pre-Surgical Preparation

Understanding the need for preparation before surgery is imperative for patients. But preparing before the procedure can be a difficult. The surgeon will provide a long list of the things that can be done and cannot be done before the surgery but patients failed to ask for explanation because they are preoccupied with the surgery. Immediate preparation is crucial for the success of the surgery.

Pre-surgical Evaluation

You will be asked questions about your health, medical history, and home circumstances. An MRSA screening and blood tests are required from some patients.

Fasting

Fasting is recommended to patients before the scheduled surgery. It is necessary for patients to avoid eating or drinking, including light snacks, sweet, and water. This is to avoid vomiting while you are under anesthetics.

Hygiene

Before the surgery, the surgeon will also ask the patient to remove all make-up and nail polish to ensure healthy blood circulation.

Patient Education

The surgical group helps patient to learn all the information on the surgery, such as the benefits and risks and what to expect. Patient education may include one-on-one instruction from a healthcare provider, educational sessions in a group setting, or self-guided learning videos or modules. The informative and instructional handouts given to the patients help them understand specific pre-surgical requirements.

Exercise

Your body needs to be healthy and physically, emotionally and mentally fit before undergoing surgery. Exercise does not need to be strenuous to be beneficial, in fact, a fifteen minute walk is far better than not exercising at all.

The robotic arms are attached with small instruments while the surgeon is sitting at a console several feet from the operating table and gets a three-dimensional real time view of the surgery from the start to end. There are countries in the Europe andUnited Statesthat are employing the use of robotic surgery.

Patients who are planning to undergo da Vinci robotic surgery should consult the doctor to know if da Vinci is right for you according to your particular needs, says FDA. Medical professionals advised women who plan on having hysterectomy to beknowledgeable of the procedure.
